HALVED HILL

HALVED HILL
Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin
08 August – 31 August 2002

Cora Cummins forthcoming exhibition at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin, is the artists second solo show at this gallery.

The works in Halved Hill stem from a local feature in the artists home townsland being literally cut in half. This incident and Coras own concerns with the destruction and deterioration of the countryside prompted this new body of etchings.

Not intended as overtly political works, she sees them as lamentations upon what is lost, disappearing or threatened. In tandem with this Cora was interested in how things one may consider as stable can be subject to complete upheavel and overnight change.
In these new works Cora has distilled a series of visual motifs that include hedgerow fauna, factory sheds, clouds and hills.
